JUNE HOLIDAYS: Discover Australia

It’s the college holidays at the moment, and it’s the best time to get away to relax.

You’ve got two options: you can go somewhere warm and sit on the beach or you can go somewhere cold and sit in front of a fireplace. Whichever one you prefer, we’ve rounded up the top four places in Australia for the winter holidays!

The Whitsundays, Queensland

Made up of 74 islands, The Whitsundays are a great place to go to during Australian winter. Located on the Central Coast of Queensland, The Whitsundays are easy to get to, and they include Hamilton Island, Hayman Island, Lindeman Island and Daydream Island.

How To Get There

The Great Barrier Reef Airport is located on Hamilton Island, with daily direct services from Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Cairns with Jetstar, Virgin Australia and Qantas Link. A scheduled ferry service connects all arriving and departing flights from Hamilton Island Airport with Abell Point Marina in Airlie Beach. The Whitsunday Coast Airport is located in Proserpine, with daily direct services from Brisbane and connecting flights from all major Australian cities with Jetstar and Virgin Australia. From the Whitsunday Coast Airport (Proserpine) it is just a short 20 minute drive into Airlie Beach.

Darwin, Northern Territory

For super warm weather, the Northern Territory is where it’s all at. Getting up to more than 30 degrees in winter, it’s like being in Sydney’s summer. Most of Darwin’s sights are easy to access by foot, so you can go hiking or wandering in the rainforests, or discover animals only found in Darwin.
